In 1984, the first substantial instrumentation project was performed in Hamburg, Iowa, in response to a client's request to provide instrumentation services for an ethanol plant.

The leadership team at Interstates saw instrumentation services as a logical progression of, and a complement to, our electrical services.

Early development of instrumentation services focused on capital project delivery. Electricians specifically trained on instrumentation performed the instrumentation scope. The services we provided included installation, calibration, and startup of both pneumatic and analog instrumentation.

Local pneumatic and microprocessor-based loop controllers were used extensively. Instrument technicians interfaced with the control system vendors, providing I/O termination lists and other necessary documentation to Interstates’ electricians.

In the new millennium, we continued to build on Interstates’ rich history and experience. In 2001, Interstates made a significant investment in expanding our instrumentation expertise by employing specialized, trained, and experienced instrumentation technicians and instrumentation engineers.

Even with the advent of smart instrumentation and advancements in control systems, we were prepared to meet these technological challenges because of our highly trained staff.
